Anthony,

Yes I did attend. Huge turnout. The lecture was held in a convention center to accommodate several hundred people. This was the largest that I have ever seen and I attend about 30 per year. The lecture was positive and very upbeat. No handout. I was amazed that significant GI bleed was .04%. Less than placebo. The data presented seemed much more positive that if you were to read the package insert.

I did speak to the Searle Rep. He did attend the meeting in San Fran with 3000 reps + others. They are working on improved labeling but I don't see that as a major problem. It is already being prescribed for pain. The problem is more getting Celebrex on the formularies. He said they are working on that as fast as possible.
All the paperwork is a real hassle.

Also, I asked about Vioxx. He told me about several rheumatologists who tested both drugs who felt Celebrex wins hands down. The fact that Vioxx cannot be used with Methotrexate took it out of the RA market. Also, Vioxx causes peripheral edema which is as severe as Procardia. It's worse if you live where it is warm.

Also, I have an invite to a second Celebrex lecture on the 4th of March. One of my favorite restaurants so I may go. Th new samples of 100 and 200 mg capsules are in. Just a few days supply. Enough time to obtain insurance approval.
