brief ceremony .... indoctrination I don't think the ceremony or the platitudes contained within it have much effect. It is the act of submission which has the effect. Any who do not partake in the prayer or at least give the appearance of respectful silence are subject to stares at a minimum and urges to be quiet (even if they are not being any more disruptive than what goes unnoticed in other parts of the public meeting). This insistance on getting the non-participants to participate is where the harm is done. TP
