Internet brokerage in the U.S., will offer trading through a Palm Pilot : "Discover Brokerage to offer wireless trading" NEW YORK, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Discover Brokerage, the online broker unit of securities giant Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. (NYSE:MWD - news), on Tuesday said it would start offering wireless trading this spring. The firm, the ninth-largest Internet brokerage in the U.S., will offer trading through a Palm Pilot, a popular hand-held computer made by 3Com Corp. (Nasdaq:COMS - news). The device, which carries a one-time price tag of around $400 (including modem) plus a $70 monthly user fee, will enable customers to trade, look up stock quotes, see stock charts, and check their portfolios. ''People like to have instant access to quotes, trading and their portfolio,'' said Discover Brokerage spokesman Rob Livingston. Discover Direct is the first major Internet brokerage to offer a comprehensive wireless trading service, including stock charts and portfolio look-up. Jason Brown, a spokesman for New York software maker w-Trade Technologies, said his firm has helped some small brokerages to offer wireless trading through Palm Pilot and other wireless devices. The brokerages using the technology include InvesTrade, R.J. Forbes, and Wall Street Discount Corp., Brown said. Discover Direct is partnering with Aether Technologies of Owings Mills, Md., which sells wireless products and services.
