I will take this time to give my abbreviated list of book and web site recommendations on technical analysis and trading.

Here is my list of books on technical analysis:

1. The Visual Investor by John Murphy
2. Introduction to Technical Analysis by Martin Pring
3. Technical Analysis Explained by Martin Pring
4. Market Momentum by Martin Pring
5. Intermarket Technical Analysis by John Murphy
6. The All-Season Investor by Martin Pring
7. Technical Analysis and the Stock Market Profits by Richard Schabacker
8. Technically Speaking by Chris Wilkinson

Here is my list of books on trading:

1. How to Make Money in Stocks by William O'Neal
2. Trading for a Living by Dr. Alexander Elder
3. The Market Wizards by Jack Schwager
4. The New Market Wizards by Jack Schwager
5. West of Wall Street by George Angell and Barry Haigh
6. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre
7. Tape Reading and Market Tactics by Humphrey Neill
8. Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom by Van Tharp
9. Hit and Run Trading I by Jeff Cooper
10. Hit and Run Trading II by Jeff Cooper

Level II and Day Trading:

12. How to Get Started in Electronic Day Trading by David Nassar
12. The Electronic Day Trader by Friedfertig and West
13. Momentum Daytrading - Tricks of the Trade by Ken Wolf

Please note that the above Momentum Daytrading "book" is actually a thread here at SI besides the name of the book by the same author that is offered at his web site. He has good material here. Just print out his formal postings on his technique from his thread to save the cost of the book. He also answers questions related to his technique on the thread in his other more informal posts.

There are other books good for specialty topics other than what I have listed here and supplementary reading which I can list in the future with brief descriptions. I also want to list books on systems development when I get a chance.

I am looking for a book that I can recommend to the "green" newbie that does not know much of anything about the stock market. This book would go into what stock is, the different types of stocks, the different orders that can be placed, the different types of broker accounts, going long and short, and perhaps a review of some technical and even fundamental oriented stuff. I would like this book geared toward the trader. I do have a book like this but it is geared toward the investor. Any suggestions here would be appreciated!

Here are the recommendations on web sites:

briefing.com

Very good timely source of market related news who do not need real-time information. I ignore their stock recommendations. This web site does periodically publish articles to educate the trader on the market.

quote.com

Good source for researching stocks. Also has the java applet that provides a real-time ticker.

murphymorris.com

Good technical analysis of the market (most of the time) and has an educational focus. All for the price of a book.

thestreet.com

Good secondary source for news and information. Also has an educational focus. Articles by Gary Smith document a successful technical system used by the author as a full-time trader.

bigcharts.com

Good technical charting on the web including TA on intraday charts.

barrons.com

Both the WSJ and Barrons, two of the most significant market publications available, is online here with a searchable history, both together for the price of a book. Also receive a more timely copy of the material which includes material not available in their print edition. Also includes access to their Smart Money magazine.

Online sources for books on trading:

elder.com

Excellent source for book on trading the stock and futures markets. Each book is carefully chosen for the catalog. So if it shows up here, the book is worth considering for purchase.

traderspress.com

Very good source for books on trading and other related topics. The books are not as carefully chosen as the Elder site, but there are good hard-to-find books here that have been republished by the owner of this business.

publicationsetc.com

A promising source for videos, audio tapes, and courses on trading. This site also includes newsletters for purchase online.
