Your questions are far more intelligent than my answers will be.

first, I noticed a lot of chuckling and gloating by shorters on this thread; a definite contrary indicator. I looked at the charts and saw a number of stocks bouncing off resistance. I heard rumors of good quarterly numbers. And I think we're about ready for "other shoes to fall," in the case of amazon and yahoo. In all, it did feel like (as WH said) "old times," which always produced at least a weekly short squeeze.

also, I think a good number of people still want these stocks, and are looking for prices, excuses, or whatever, to get into them.

finally, I don't subscribe to any of the conspiracy theories regarding analysts saying this or that so their customers can do this and such; I think that's silly.
