Vodafone extends its range
Evening Standard

IF you're heading to the United States you can now take your existing
Vodafone mobile phone number with you and use it -- just as you can when
travelling around Australia, the United Kingdom and more than 50 other
countries.

Last week Vodafone announced its customers can autoRoam in 1049 cities
in the United States. However, it would be worth checking before you head
off, as the service is available, at the moment, in only 29 states.

Customers can hire a phone that works on the American 1900 Mhz
frequency and insert their SIMcard, which contains their own phone number
and pre-programmed information.

The company also has a mobile "world phone" operating on both the
American and New Zealand frequencies, which means travellers no longer
have to rent and perhaps use another number.

Until now mobile phone use has been complicated for some Kiwis. If you
wanted to travel through various states, you had to repeat the rental and new
phone number process every time you entered a new state, as they operate
on different networks.
