One thing about 30% of Americans on line is that this represents the start of the steep part of the technology adoption S-curve. The growth from 30% to 70% or so is typically explosive. So this bodes well not only for AOL but for a lot of ISPs. AOL having the most eyeballs should profit the most.

AOL report was just on CNBC.

Would go down in history with MSFT, CSCO, and DELL. AOL is "Anywhere and Everywhere"

Have 38 million unique users which is a larger readership than the top 18 newspapers.

Steve Case came up with the concept when downloading a game via modem in 1982. Envisioned a mass marketing vehicle. Began with $1 million from VC and was compete with a $1 Billion war chest of IBM and Sears (Prodigy)

Now control 50% of the Internet in Content, Community, and Commerce

In 30% of US households. Projected to go to 50-70%

Sales of $2.6 Billion on 1998 with a market cap of $80 Billion which ranks in the top 50 of the S&P 500. Also has $1.2 Billion in cash.

80% of income from subscription with rest from ads and E-commerce.

Expect income to go to $4 Billion in 1999. Returned 600% for 5 year investment.

Has a dominant position with 2500 employees at one site. Looking to develop more interactive information flow.

Acquires NSCP, Compuserve, and ICQ.

Average user time has risen from 14 min to over 1 hour.

However, there is lots of work to be done in a hyper competitive environment

MSFT and DIS' Go.com are a couple of competitors, and Broad Band will also compete where AT&T and TCI dominate.

Let's not forget ICQ. There are over 1 million users now and AOl will not keep this great personal communicator for free for long.
