Ten Million World-Wide Customers for Vodafone
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999--Vodafone Group Plc today announced that it had signed its ten millionth proportionate customer. Vodafone currently has interests in mobile phone networks in thirteen countries around the world.

The ten million landmark was passed on March 1, 1999. The figure was made up of 5.373 million customers in the UK and 4.627 million proportional customers from the Group's international operations.

Commenting, Chris Gent, Chief Executive of Vodafone Group Plc, said: ''We are delighted to have passed another significant landmark. The spectacular growth of the mobile phone industry around the world shows no sign of abating. Ultimately, we expect penetration rates to reach 65% to 70% of the population in every sophisticated market in the developed world, excluding new applications in media information and telemetry.''
