Autonomy Corporation plc (EASDAQ: AUTN), the Cambridge based software company that floated on
EASDAQ in July 1998, today announced net revenues for its second quarter ended June 30, 1998 of
L1.1 million (1997: L348,000), a 216% increase on the second quarter of 1997. This also represents
an increase of 57% on turnover in the first quarter ended March 31, 1998 of L697,000.
First half 1998 revenues were L1.8 million, representing a greater than 300% increase from the
same period in 1997 (1997: L446,000) and 5% better than revenues of L1,718,000 for all 12
months of 1997.

Gross margins increased from 80.2% in the first quarter 1998 to 81.9% in the second quarter of
1998. The recorded net loss reduced from L521,000 in the first quarter of 1998 to L296,000 in the
second quarter; the net loss per share improved from 1.75p to 1.00p over the same period. As a
result of Autonomy's Initial Public Offering of shares on EASDAQ, the company acquired the rights to
the Dynamic Reasoning Engine, a core technology embedded within Autonomy's products, from
Neurodynamics Limited for $4 million. Consequently, Autonomy's Board expects the company's gross
margin to improve further in the third quarter of 1998 due to the cessation of royalty payments.

Autonomy achieved a major milestone by recording best-ever figures for direct sales, repeat sales
and indirect sales. New customers include: Lloyd's of London Press, Novell, Bell South, Times Mirror
and the Royal Mail. Repeat business came from Associated Press, Reed Elsevier and Barclays Bank.
Autonomy extended its sales and distribution network with new business coming via Digital, Sema
Group and Securicor. The company's first UK OEM licensing deal was also struck with Insight
Technologies, a leading UK document management company.

"These excellent results illustrate how the market is waking up to the growing need for information
resources to be automated," said Dr Mike Lynch, Managing Director and CEO. "This quarter we have
seen the adoption by global enterprises of our Agentware products which enables them to save time,
labour and money by automatically categorizing, linking and personalizing large volumes of
information. We are very proud that companies such as Novell, Lloyds of London Press, Bell South,
Times Mirror and the Royal Mail have chosen Autonomy's solutions to deliver real business benefits."

Autonomy's direct sales efforts have also been significantly strengthened by three new senior
management appointments: Roberto Solimene has joined Autonomy as Head of European Sales from
Fulcrum where he held the same position; William Henley has joined as Head of New Media Sales from
Bell Corporation and Steve Ross has joined the San Francisco operation as Director of Business
Development, having previously worked for Documentum and Segue Software Inc.

Autonomy also announces that following the company's flotation, both John McMonigall, Director of
Apax Partners and Company Ventures Limited and Daniel Levy, Managing Director of English National
Investment Company Limited have been re-appointed as non- executive directors.

Commenting further on the results, Dr Mike Lynch said:

"These excellent results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of all our employees. We
have been working hard to push Autonomy's products into the market through both direct and indirect
channels. The size and quality of customers now signing up to license our Agentware products is very
encouraging.

The quality of senior management that we are able to attract to the company, coupled with the
strengthened financial base derived from Autonomy's IPO on EASDAQ, provide us with the resources
to drive sales forward in the UK, Europe and, particularly, the US. The Board looks forward to the
third quarter and the year-end with confidence."
