THQ's Video Games Dominate Market According toSoftware Industry's NPD Group; Company Kicks Off New Year With No. 1 Selling Console Game for January; Two Additional Games Make the Top 20 February 24, 1999 08:31 AM CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 1999--Game publisher THQ Inc. THQI has topped the console category for the first month of 1999 with "WCW/NWO Thunder" for the PlayStation. Ranking as NPD TRSTS' No. 1 selling console game for the month of January, "WCW/NWO Thunder" beat out all other PlayStation and Nintendo 64 games according to units sold. "WCW/NWO Revenge" and "Rugrats: Search for Reptar" were also among TRSTS' top 20 console sellers for January. NPD TRSTS reports rank video games and computer game software according to total dollars and units sold. THQ placed among the top 10 publishers in three different console system categories in TRSTS' annual report of all software publishers. THQ was rated the No. 5 Nintendo 64 publisher, the No. 6 PlayStation publisher and the No. 1 independent Game Boy publisher, second only to Nintendo, for 1998. Additionally, THQ was ranked the No. 4 software publisher for the month of January 1999.
