Sony says may unveil new chip for PlayStation

TOKYO, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Sony Computer Entertainment said on Wednesday it would likely unveil a new memory chip that
could be used in a future version of its popular PlayStation game machine.

The company, a Sony Corp unit, said it would hold a meeting for software developers for the PlayStation in Tokyo on March 2 at which it would give more details.

A company spokesman said it was preparing for the launch of a new version of PlayStation, but declined to say exactly when the new game machine would be
introduced.

Morgan Stanley analyst Mark Edelstone said earlier this month that he believed Sony was preparing to use Rambus Inc's (Nasdaq:RMBS - news) memory
technology in its Sony PlayStation II machine, due out some time next year.

California-based Rambus is a developer of high-speed memory technology, which it has licensed to major manufacturers of computer memory chips worldwide for
use in their products.

Sony said in January that total global shipments of the 32-bit game machine since its launch in December 1994 had reached 50 million units last December.

Dave B, I love all this talk about delay, because what it really means is that we are finally very close to RMBS REALITY! It won't be long now -- approx. 6 months.

I wonder what the time frame is going to be for "shorts" to become scared of doing their thing with RMBS, for fear that the market will be discounting the delay and looking forward to high profits?
