Patent RE036017 is a reissue of 5088108 and both deal with making sure that in a single cell, with two different basestation transmitters transmitting the same thing, that the two basestations do not step on one another at the mobile.

>> Just to play the devil's advocate - this sounds like soft handoff. two base stations transmitting the same signal to a single handset as the handset travels closer to one base to a further away from the other. the soft handoff occurs because both base stations are transmitting the same signal and vary power as teh mobile moves between the two stations. This patent could be dealing with a method of balancing the power/signal between two stations so as not to loose the signal the mobile travels from one to teh other.
