Opps, correct that to read. "[Gates] made a cool $3.6 billion just today." Seems I overlooked a couple of stock splits.

Re: statistics on USA $.

Jeff, 1/2 of USA wealth is owned by 3.5% of households. Median household has a networth less than $15,000, excluding home equity. Those in top quintile have a median household networth less than $60,000, excluding home equity. Without Soc Sec, almost one-half of Americans over sixty-five would live in poverty. Per Tom Stankley, 1995.

Even worse is yet to come, many Gen X will retire without the pension plans and corporate retirement health plans of the earlier decades. If $35,000 were deposited into a child's retirement account on the day they were born, this would eventually grow to around $1M expressed in today's dollar, by age 65. (Assumes 50 year average SNP & inflation.) Why save for your kid's college? The $1M sounds like a much better deal! Weddings could even be eliminated and changed into fund-raising events for "the future retirement of the newlywed's future children." ;)

Jeff,
Re:-"... 25% of us are in poverty.."

You sound like a preacher. I suppose you would also say: " We are all sinners!" Don't include me; I am just greedy,
humble carl

PS: See you in May.
