I made the mistake of signing up to use the askmerrill website. Two days later I was blitzed by my local Merrill Lynch stockbroker who tried to sell me investment services. He is persistent. Calls about once a month. In my humble opinion, the askmerrill site is a thinly-disguised marketing ploy to gather names for their high-priced traditional services. Its an easy way for them to get names and phone numbers. FYI

cbs.marketwatch.com

today there was some stunning news

1. amazon announcing that it has taken a 40% equity postion on a online drug firm

2. Ibm announcing a 7% stage in prodigy

I suspect there will be other major deals and takeovers this year

in your opinion , which 10 companies in the internet field
are most likely to be taken over and by whom .

Steve,
How do you feel about Amazon and their attempt to become the Walmart of the Web (which by the way has a market cap of $188 billion)? It looks like drugstore.com is just the beginning, and there are rumors that an acquisition in the travel industry may be next. Also, when Henry Blodget gets settled at Merrill, won't he have to change the Merrill Lynch official rating on Amazon from a "SELL" to a "BUY". My broker at Merrill tells me he hasn't been able to recommend AMZN to his clients because of this SELL rating....perhaps the new rating change will cause the thousands of Merrill brokers to begin recommending AMZN...which could cause another powerful rally.
