Hi Herm,
No, I'm the fellow who's dad owned Bill's Sailfish Marina - now The Sailfish Marina - over on Singer Island. Dad bought the place in '55 when it was a little boat rental place, built it up, and sold it in the mid '70s to Lou Perini who in turn sold it to Dryfus (who owns channel 12). Dryfus then bought the Sailfish Center & the 3 empty lots surrounding our place, combined them & added another 300' dock to the present size.
Through those yrs some interesting characters kept the boats at the place: Perry Como (nicest man I ever met), Jack Nicklaus (eh!), Mr Hanes (the clothing Hane's), the Phipps family (US Steel), Mr. Headstrom (toy manuf. & good friend of Igor Sykorsky), Briggs Cunningham (Brigg's & Stratton - & racing fiend), old man Kimberly from Kimberly Clark, Pete Benoit (Permatex), and some top dogs from the Teamster's Union (very, very, interesting & no names :-)).
Alot of interesting people & interesting stories. We had a family operation and didn't give these people any special treatment, in fact practical jokes were the plan of the day & if you couldn't take it you left! Result was alot of these people would just come around & "hang out".
Moved over to the 'Island' in '49 - the 5th house over there, lot of good times growing up.
Well, probably more info than you expected so will stop rambling.
Thanks again for all your help,
Bill/WA
