Mary, re:"NO. You are right."

Am I flattered or chastised here, Mary? I think you have truly captured the spirit of this tread in such a succinct remark!

As long as Bill Gates is not consuming outlandishly, and if he leaves his fortune to a public trust of some kind, as he has promised, his wealth is not meaningful. It is paper wealth, in effect, where Bill Gates has full authority to manage.

No, you are right! I heartily agree that he'd better not try to spend it. This wealth is the capital of Microsoft. It is now "working" to motivate Redmondians to work feverishly to continue to produce and distribute great software at very low prices. Sure MS is attacked for huge marginal returns, but look what your getting for a C note. Twenty years ago equivalent software would cost you tens of thousands per installation.

So yes, we're doing just fine as long as Gates' wealth is left alone as Microsoft equity. And it is meaningful.

Better him, than some silver tongued politician.

AMEN to that, Mary!

Jeff

P.S. I enjoy your posts - thanks
