Just spoke with a representative of my local (antiquated) cable company. My cable company is a division of TCI and operates under it's own name in different areas. They were using a cable modem system known as "superstream" . Now, they are dropping that and going to @home because they find that will be more complete and cheaper. No mention of ownership interest in @Home. However, what I found as interesting was that they will only upgrade to cable modems in areas that have fiber optic cable installed. Therefore any older cable infrastructure of coaxial cable will have to be upgraded in the future. This is the only barrier to @home at present that I can see. People are calling and begging for cable modem service and the price is insignificant. At 29.95 plus $10.00 cable rental fee per month it's a bargain if you use the internet.
