Some dmographics on China for the uninformed.

* "FRom 1992 to 1996, the Chinese economy as a whole grew by an average of 12% per annum. It is likely that it will continue to grow at 9% to 10% per annum for the foreseeable future, with some of the richer coastal provinces enjoying a real GDP growth of up to 20% per annum. The first PPP(Purchasing Power Parody) figures prepared for China have put per capital GDP at more than US $2000. If economic growths continue, China would certainly catch up with many Western countries in terms of PPP over the next 10-15 years. Taking into account the income variation between richer and the poorer regions in China, income per capita in richer provinces is now high enough to allow a sizable increase in cellular, internet and other telecom services. Real income growth among the middle income earners in china is likely to fuel further rapid growth in the number of mobile cellular, internet subscribers....."

" Current demographic trend in China should have a positive impact on the overall growth of the telcom markets in China. The population in China is currently growing at 1.2% and is likely to continue to increase at a similar rate. More importantly, an increase proportion of the population will tend to live in urban areas, as people move from rural districts into cities to secure better jobs. It is possible that this will lead to an increasing Westernization of demand for telecom..."

Given the fact that GTCI's main business operations will be based in the biggest urban areas in China, I think that they really have a good shot at capturing a fair piece of the explosive telecom market in China. In addition, looking at their past news release, they seem to be more than just an ISP company. They will be able to sell value-added products such as IP Phones, computer gateways, , networking equipment, software, e-commerce products and other peripheral products which will all be highly demanded as the telecom market expands and matures.

I believe that if GTCI plays their cards right , which I have no reason to doubt given the experiences of the mangement team in doing business in China, that there are ample opportunities for a small IT(Informatin Technology) company such as GTCI to become very successful and profitable operating in some of the fastest growing niche telecom markets in China. Small companies are often times much more competitive than the behemoth multinationals in capitalizing on fast changing markets - example, Netscape came out of nowhere to reap the initial rewards of the internet market before Microsoft or any of the big companies even noticed them.
