There is an implied endorsement of Monsanto and GM simply because the UK Royal Fellows issued that letter. In fact, I would say it is almost a "vote of confidence" in the technology.

Note, even though the letter didn't come out and say "GM is wonderful", these top scientists did *wait* some time before making a statement on this matter (a rule of good science is to never make hasty judgments). This implies they were not hasty...lest they ignore some detail about the "potato fraud" that others had missed.

I'll just bet in the days before that letter was issued, you had some of the world's top scientists looking at every aspect of the science involved in the bad science claims. In other words, if there was any evidence GM foods really were dangerous (or enough studies had not yet been done), the top scientists in the world would NOT make the statement they did, or they would qualify it specifically in that respect.

The letter is NOT to be taken lightly, these guys are the best of the best. If you don't believe these guys, you might as well not trust a single thing created by science...which is almost everything these days.
