much easier and more profitable to buy back a call after the underlying has run 55 points....your initial reason to sell against your position was to hedge...called away now, no upside opportunity..go too close april, may, etc 90-100, and your looking over your shoulder...if dell is 80 post split in jan...and you have sold 140=70 post split your position would be long dell @ 80(160 pre split) and a call with a value of 10(20 pre split)...i would gladly give 10 back, and increase my cost basis for an move of 75...
remember may brings 2002 leaps...you can repair a call by rolling out also...once a queen, always a queen....
