However, I do not know how it would turn out given the state of the affairs these days. Even if one is not predisposed to altruism, the US history is littered with rubber barons. Without any counter balance, it is hard to say what sort of country this would have been [good lord, I sound like one of those lying socialists, but I can assure you that I am a highly egocentric person <sg>!] OTOH, I don't think interest groups are the answer. So, I guess I am more a "groper" than a "minimalist" <G>

It is interesting to see you set up the contrast between SK and Taiwan. However, I am wondering if unionism is the cause or the consequence of the two similar but very distinct politico-economies
