My Dearest Gene - concerning <I wonder if Intel really needs to be the pioneer.>
Indubitably, someone has to be the pioneer. Whom would you suggest?

concerning <how long will it be before there are sufficient PIII's installed that an e-tailer would choose to constrain his business to PIII, (forsaking all of the legacy machines out there?) A couple of years or more?>
I suppose that if Intel waited two years, it would then take 4 years from now for what is, by all means, a 'critical' mass to develop. The clock must start sometime, what?

concerning <And can't there be other methods that would heighten the security of a transaction on the entire installed base? >
I suppose there are - but what are they? Internet security has been an issue for many years, it still is, which indicates that today there is no bullet-proof solution. This P3 deal is an advancement of sorts - am I to assume that you have an objection to technology advancements?
