I know the story and the feeling. I agree we live in times that are to be considered almost as a dream. Don't get too comfortable watching the movie ...

I read in the paper yesterday that Jesse (the Body) was critical of Hillary's desire to run in New York. He said, "she's not from there..." From the mouth of ... well, er ... wrestlers ...

She wouldn't have a snowball's chance in Arkansas.

However, I have a particular disdain for Mr. Clarke. His slant in that story and others are simply anti-God. Don't get me wrong -- I like science fiction and can look at other points of view, but that sort of thing and the kind of stuff written by Rand I can't take ... too many folks are hurt by it ... they have the right to express themselves, but I have the right to look elsewhere for something that is encouraging or makes me think ...

Not meant to be offensive, JMO ... see PM

Peter

Even though I agree with your post (especially the surreal aspects), it is still quite dangerous thinking.--g-- You need to buy some AMZN, have a couple of drinks and get with the program. Dow's going to triple over next ten years!!

Great story, great last line! I think it was actually The Nine Billion Names of God. The monks were trying to write the name of God by writing out every possible combination of letters of their alphabet, knowing that they would eventually write out the name of God. The total number of these combinations was nine billion. The westerners, trying to help these monks, help setup a computer for them, so that it would speed up the process of going through every single permutation of letters. Little did they know that they would so central in bringing the end of the world.

"Overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out one by one."
