Darpa.......First why didn't you provide a link or the full context of the article?

I previously posted a similar article on the same topic from MartketWatch.com

cbs.marketwatch.com

"...Despite the relatively small damages ordered by the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court, the ruling may [or may not]set a precedent for other software piracy cases in China, where most computers operate on pirated software...."

This article is also very interesting...

marketwatch.newsalert.com

PR Newswire - February 16, 1999 16:05

"...The leading trade association for the software and information industry estimated that more than 90 percent of all business software used in Bulgaria, China, Indonesia, Russia and Vietnam is pirated...."

Now per your thesis all this pirated software is in need of a fix...

But your thesis begs two questions.

1). With the penchant and prevalency of piracy in China, what prevents
Chinese people and businesses from pirating GTCI's y2k software?

One answer to this is nothing, and the tendency to pirate software
undermines both the potential market and revenues from that market.

2) Also do GTCi's y2k products address software as well as hardware y2k bugs?

According to Yang's review, GCTI y2k fix is a HARDWARE fix ONLY...not a software fix, and requires the computer to be rebooted up to eight time, which according to many people is a competitive disadvantage versus other y2k products that are just hardware fixes.

Message 7575614

"...It's documentation clearly states that it does not check software (applications) for Y2k problem...."

Thus the market for GCTI's hardware fix y2k products has to be
measured by non-compliant y2k computers....not non-compliant software.

Please review these links for an assessment of this
non-y2k market size....in China it is small and no where
near the claimed 10 mill computer total per WSRG's tout.

Therefore, based on your points, I have to disagree with
you regarding WSRG's claims.

I also have to ask you whether or not you know what
GTCI y2k's products are since you are mistaken
about GTCI's products capabilities.

Sincerely,
