Some possibilities: 1) Just what the PR says. The potential reward wasn't worth the risk or continued outlay for lawyer fees. 2) They needed to clear up the civil suit in order to bring criminal charges. [As suggested to me by someone who like myself, is not a lawyer] 3) Potential sources of financing wanted the deck cleared of any risks from the suit and counter suit before investing. 4) Wellpoint wanted the same as #3. This might explain that strange PR and "correction" last week.
