Dear GOP,
Why don't you post your questions and give us the benefit of the doubt ;).,, L & $$$ WCTI, Barbara
P.S. Hesitated to respond to you, found that a bit insulting to be honest.

Merylee-
I'd be interested in hearing your questions, even if I don't know the answers. (I'm in IT management, so I don't actually have to know anything as long as the people working for me do--and, hey, maybe one of them knows?) I'm pretty sure the thread has more than a few closet nerds and software geeks lurking, and they might be able to help; more selfishly, I sometimes learn as much from a really good question as from the answer. So, please, fire away!

PS Do a lot of Republicans like Macs? That must really piss off Steve Jobs.

I went to BYU site and their engine of choice at the present time is AltaVista which translates in many languages. I found that interesting since they are NOT using their homegrown engine and particularly interesting is AV's translating. They are using Babel technology which is cool and pretty efficient.

Actually, AltaVista's translating is based off of Systran's technology. Babelfish is just a nod in the direction of Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide series. Systran's been around for longer than I've been born, which isn't saying too much, but they're well established and their software works great when you need to get the general idea of what a document says. I'm hoping WCTI's will live up to the same potential Systran has. I'd recommend everyone taking a look at AltaVista's translation site for a glimpse of what will come with WCTI (http://babelfish.altavista.com). Systran's site (http://www.systransoft.com) is also worth browsing through, although there's not too much in-depth info to sink your teeth into.

Is there anyone on this board that knows search technology? I have a few questions about search agents (Auntonomy) that I would like answered.

I'm fairly familiar with search engine technology. Post your message, I'm sure someone will be able to get you the info you're looking for. It'll be a learning experience for the rest of the board too.

Cheers!
