Demming maybe? I know he's heavily studied in Japan for quality improvements.

Do you know much about JDEC (JD Edwards)?

Michelle, in 1950 JUSE (Japanese Scientists and Engineers) held a seminar and invited Doctor W. Edwards Deming. He went there and taught an eight day course in Statistical Control. He also taught the Japanese about the Plan Do Check Act cycle. But probably the most important formula he explained to the Japanese was... Improve quality - Costs decrease - Productivity Improves - Capture the market with better quality and lower price - Stay in business - Provide Jobs and more jobs.

They believed him and started instituting statistical process control in their factories.

In 1954 Doctor Joseph Juran (another noted American statistician) was invited to Japan by JUSE. The hall was filled with nearly every CEO of Japanese society. He taught them how quality must begin with TOP management. And that unless "Quality" is managed like a corporate financial balance sheet, it's roots would never infect the entire organization. He introduced the Japanese to the "Juran Trilogy" and the uses of the Pareto chart. The quality revolution in Japan was launched.

Along the way, Doctors Ishikawa, Tuguchi, and other brilliant Japanese quality guru's, working side by side with Deming, refined and improved on the knowledge. The Fishbone diagram was invented, along with the Quality Circle concept and Tuguchi loss function model.

Doctor Shewart is the father of them all. He taught Doctors Deming and Juran in the early 1930's about statistics and their importance to quality. The control chart was first developed by him at Bell Telephone Labs. His landmark book "Economic Control of Quality and Manufactured Product" is still regarded as the one of the most important works of the 20th century.

The most important books written by Deming and Juran are: "Out of the Crisis" and "Quality Control Handbook".

Sorry so long, but you touched on my favorite subject! :-)
