"Last mile" is terminology in the i-net connection world to describe the technology from the last "hub" or ISP to you at, say, your home

Can be:
POTS at 28.8k 33k 56k
ISDN
ADSL
Cable modem
Extra-terrestrial wireless modem
Microwave wireless modem

Other connex, though not final mile, are: T1, T3, OC-3, .....

hberg - 'last mile' refers to the ultimate connection everyone has in accessing the data that comes into our homes via computer, phone, tv, etc.

If you consider the massive network making up the Internet (WWW) to be an 'Electronic Superhighway', then the terminations at everyone's house is more like 'electronic city streets' or the 'last mile'. The communications giants are all in a big competition for securing this access into everyone's home.

So a 'last mile' play would be any company with anything to do with the end connection - LU, ATHM, PAIR, IFCI, even ABTEE.

Cheers

Mike

hberg: QuietWon and Mike Ankley have answered well. In addition, they have made clear that I should have said "wireless last-mile play."

Please note that I am not touting WAVC (though they may be a fine outfit). My original point was to defend WAVX as a company worth a closer look than I thought TE was giving it.

Best wishes.
