Monsanto Halts Research on Two Experimental Cancer Medicines

St. Louis, Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Monsanto Co. said it ended
research on two experimental cancer drugs, one of which was in
the last of three stages of testing required for U.S. approval.

This is the second setback this year for Monsanto's research
program. Last month, Monsanto said it ended development of two
oral clot-preventing heart drugs that were in advanced testing.

The setbacks come as Monsanto's new arthritis drug Celebrex
has one of the best U.S. introductions ever for a new medicine.
Celebrex captured more than 400,000 prescriptions in its first
five weeks on the market. The drug seems to be less harsh on the
stomach than older painkillers such as ibuprofen.

Monsanto, based in St. Louis, rose 7/16 to 48.

Tony Blair is a very clever, savvy and intelligent politician. I'm quite sure he'd figured it all out. Sir Robert May, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government, doesn't seem to have been fooled. See #reply-7939504
