I recalled the exact words after posting, and decided not to change them, but I enjoyed the fuller version, so thanks... You are right about Shakespeare, which I also appreciate, since I have been in discussions of plays like "Henry V" where the participants seemed to not be able to get it into their heads that Shakespeare meant to support the prerogatives of kings... When I slipped it in, I wasn't thinking of the context, but I don't think that impeachment is the same as assassination, and I am tired of overblown comparisons about it ("coup d'etat", "vendetta", etc.). Anyway, Antony doesn't just "anticipate the bloody chaos", he actively foments it. The line promises vengeance... Finally, Brutus and the conspirators WERE honorable men, trying to preserve the Roman Republic against the pretensions of one whom they feared would make himself king. It is only partisanship that caused Antony to deride their honor...
