Tench, Re: PIII naming PIII Classic....no ID PIII......with ID It is a simple matter to offer it and it gets the customers and media off their back. I agree that most OEMS will just go with the ID standard parts but at least the customer is given a choice-and that is what it's all about. In the worst case they can simply offer to replace CPU's for concerned customers. I doubt if more than a handfull of customers would care, but it would get rid of the PR problems. I know Paul's view was that any press is good in the long term but I really think that they need to show some sensitivity to the issue. If they don't it will snowball on them IMHO. Regards, Kash

Ten, "Unless this ID thing gets way out of control" It's already out of control, I told you guys this from the get go. I said it WAS SERIOUS...got blasted by Engel and pooh poohed by the Intel faithful. All you are seeing now is the tip of the iceburg. A nice peice is just coming on CBS news, how telephone scam artists can rob the elderly of their life savings. Where do the scam artists get there targets? Not yet, but will the Pentium III- CPUID yet be viewed as another vector for tracking and targeting people? OH YES! Wait till this sucka hits the evening news and 60 minutes. You bet it will.
