Dan,

<< I protest your attempt to leave this thread.>>

LOL, Boy is that going to irritate some people......

I think it only makes sense for me to continue to regularly post on this thread if I can figure out a way to express myself without causing acrimony. Unfortunately, that is somewhat difficult.

the reason I say that is that both I and the regular participants on this thread are fairly secure in their beliefs and are very unikely to radically change those beliefs at this time. That alone is not altogether bad or wrong. Neither is is discussion between people with strong but differing belief systems.

The problem derives from the manner of discussing these things in a "cyber fashion". Personally, even though I have no desire to become a Christian, I very much enjoy discussing these subjects and hearing other viewpoints. I find it very interesting and illuminating to hear how other people think and feel about these issues. I find it far more interesting than discusing it with people I agre with, because I already know how and why these people think and feel the way they do.

It is far more difficult, IMO, to hold these discussions over the net.
The impersonal nature of this kind of "chatting" leads to far more problems than personal face to face discussion does. There is far less ability to reassure people of your intentions, and tonal inflection has SOOOO much meaning that it is so easy to misconstrue what people are trying to say. That leads to frustration, and that leads to unnecessarily hard feelings.

To sum it up, unless I can find a way to discuss things in a more positive and uplifting fashion without watering down my own beliefs, I will refrain from posting. I have zero desire to cause dissension and hard feelings.

I hope you understand.

Mark
