I may be showing my firm grasp of the obvious, but I think the news today is really two stories. The first is that the stand-alone Sales product is free so Siebel can sell the Workgroups version. The software business model is very much like Adobe's model to sell Acrobat. They give the Acrobat Reader to people for free to sell the publishing software for bucks.

The second story is that Sales.com has the potential to be a destination site for sales pros, generating e-commerce revenue for Siebel through the sale of advertising and possibly sharing revenue from products sold online. I don't expect Sales.com to become the next Amazon, but it is an interesting concept.
