"I am only 46, and I don't want to think about turning 50 just yet."

It's great when you consider the alternative at 75 I'm looking forward to 80. GGG

The berries at Costco sound like a really good fresh deal, Blue. However, even though
I almost always make everything from scratch I did NOT feel like cooking, and
actually went to the store and bought a frozen cobbler, which was just delicious. The
premium brands of frozen pies and cobblers are now quite thick and rich and fruity, if
you are lazy and self-indulgent like I am when I am celebrating. The really nice ones also cost almost ten dollars, but it's worth it if you've slaved over a hot stove for guests and didn't quite have time to pull a dessert together, as well. Last New Year's Day I had people over for hoppin' john and fried chicken, and there was just the most wonderful peach pie that I bought frozen that you couldn't even really tell wasn't homemade. It was several inches thick!

I think overall that pies and cobblers are much more fun than cake, which is often dry
and cloyingly sweet at the same time. Softly melting vanilla ice cream makes them even
more yummy. Now just try getting a cake to melt anything--impossible!

Several days after my birthday, I am just extremely glad it is over. Although Sam does
raise a very good point--people who are older WISH they could be fifty again. It's all
just a matter of perspective, like most things.
