Perhaps this is why Bezos floated the 1.2 debt offering? Maybe his real plan for Amazon is to become a venture capital fund like CMGI?

Wait a second.. If CMGI holds a stake in Amazon (it does) and Amazon were to invest in CMGI, wouldn't that fit the definition of a sham?

The 'ol "two guys selling the same stock certificate to each other over and over until it reaches a price of infinity" game.

In the future, perhaps all internut companies can just quit doing physical operations altogether, and simply invest in each other's stock. Imagine the profit potential! Ooops, I mean the potential to make the insiders rich- as long as the public retail guys don't catch on..

I agree for the most part. The prescription drug part of the deal is the most interesting IMO - if that can be made to take off. I think it will take much more work than selling books and music - like personal sales promotion efforts to the health care industry. Not something of much entertainment value.

Most stuff that DrugStore.com sells can be found at several stores within a few miles of most people. If you've got a headache, waiting for a FED-X package might be a bit of a problem. I guess Amazon could do the same thing they do for books - wrap about $10 around each order so that sales will grow rapidly. Yea, sell products for 20% off AND offer free shipping - that might get sales to really take off and, of course, speculators will just love that!

RE: Then I
click over to Buy.com and save 20% over Amazon prices.

Do you know what their profit margins are? Seems to me if Amazon can't make money due to low margins how the heck can Buy.com by undercutting Amazon? Maybe they have lower fulfillment costs.

How does delivery time compare? You can get books from Amazon in 2 to 3 days.
