APW Enclosure Systems may not be involved in a very sexy line of business by wireless industry standards - production of
electronic enclosures and attendant equipment used at cell sites - but it's one that can prove lucrative all the same.

The San Jose, Calif.-based subsidiary of Applied Power Inc. [APW] announced yesterday (2/24) its selection by L.M. Ericsson
AB [ERICY] to be "the key supplier" of units for housing Ericsson-made base stations.

APW said the multiyear deal carries an estimated value of more than $200 million. Initial manufacturing under the Ericsson
contract will begin in 1999, with production volumes increasing beginning in 2001.

The units that APW will develop are expected to include racks, subracks, front panels, backplanes and assemblies for thermal
controls, cables and power supplies.

APW's designation as Ericsson's global enclosure systems supplier "is a fundamental part of our strategy to outsource non-core
activities," said Cenneth Gunnarson, strategic purchasing manager. Over the past year, the Swedish manufacturer has been
stressing the outsourcing of certain supply requirements as part of its restructuring program.

A company specializing in just-in-time manufacturing techniques, APW operates 44 facilities in North America, Europe and the
Asia/Pacific region. APW's products also are used in the computer, networking, medical, semiconductor, and embedded computer
device industries. (Kris Holla, APW Enclosure Systems, 408/453-4500.)
