Jim, dating back to some early 1997, I have noticed only a few sensible voices on the Dell thread. Without a doubt, you lead that handful. Bravo for being a man! As with attitude, there is no dearth of that trait among a lot of Dellhead. A lot of us who hang out here have attitude too. But being a mature bunch, we found ways and means to get along with each other well. BTW, tell your friends on the Dell thread not to worry about our living on canned-food. Their time is better spent in counting the profits they are going to make on Dell rather than pay any attention to reality.

Jim, RE: Dell banishment Their loss, ignorance is bliss. MB is one of the sharpest guys around -RAZOR SHARP!. Unfortunately, the masses will have to learn the hard way what Mike and others on this thread so graciously share. I cannot understand why it is so difficult understand the bears perspective if you spend enough time here. This game has been played before albeit not to such extremes -another generation headed for the stock market slaughter house. Mike

Jim, thanks. I didn't really get kicked off the thread, just asked to limit the # of my posts. I find that difficult to do when there are a large # of notes in my inbox. I don't like to make arbitrary decisions about which people are worthy of a reply because I am on a quota.

I have to admit, the Dell thread surprised me. I have scanned it from time to time and really thought everybody there was an idiot. Once I started posting, I discovered that there are many bright people. It is just that the idiots post more often and the funny things they say overwhelm the wiser comments.

But, as a contrarian, the fact that I was royally abused by so many on the thread cockles the warms of my heart. That is a primary indicator that the stock is a cult and I may be on the right track. I see that even Merrill Lynch warned on Dell today.

Two things struck me as odd: 1. How many folks claimed I didn't post data when I posted my data several times. Not the ones who said "what data are you talking about?" But the ones who read it and said there was no such thing. The market share comment, which was a throwaway on my part, was something I thought everyone who followed Dell would be aware of. I gave the source and even quoted the wording verbatim. And folks still said I was making it up.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying there may not be excellent excuses for Dell's large loss of market share 3Q to 4Q. I am simply saying that we cannot deny it happened and that I shouldn't be called a liar for pointing it out. Strange tactics in a debate, to argue over a proven fact. <g>

2. How many use the "I made money in the stock" argument. What has that to do with the future? Whenever I hear that, I assume I am writing to a very unsophisticated investor.

None of that applies to you or Gabriel or several others who made good points and points I have had to consider. That, IMHO, is the entire purpose behind an SI, other than just having fun.

As far as attitude goes, I'll admit that I am loaded with it. Most of the time I try to be funny, but sometimes it flops. It flops almost every time with folks who hate my guts. One of my buddies once said that if I were on a date with a beautiful woman, and had a choice between getting off a zinger at her expense or taking her home for the night, I'd have everyone in stitches and be sleeping alone. My reply has always been, bring on the beautiful woman and let me be the judge of that. <g>

Best,

MB
