(WAY Off topic) Mudcat, I have no respect for name-calling and sniping, and when GOSSIP is posted directly to me, I SWAT. You will be assimilated! ------------------------------ First of all, GOSSIP will never get a sympathetic audience from me. Do NOT post it to ME. Second, you've hit one of my pet peeves. (Lucky you!) Taunting a person with his own name is one of the most galling forms of name-calling. That "Hank" and "Mudrat" stuff sets my teeth on edge. Sorry to make a big deal out of this, but it IS a big deal, because it stokes the hostility big time. Disrespect for a person's name encapsulates disrespect for the person. It's not to be tolerated. Even little kids understand this. For example .... In first grade my son Mark came home from school, and said: o Kid - There's a kid in my class named Marcus. Can Mark be spelled M-a-r-c? o Mom - Yes. Why? o Kid - I'm changing my name to M-a-r-c. o Mom - Why?? o Kid - Because Marc's a name, and mark's a word. If I'm Marc, then people'll quit bugging me with all those dumb On-your-mark, mark --- Where's your bookmark, mark jokes. From that day to this, Marc has never spelled his name with a "k" ------------- Once when I told this story at work, one of the guys, Jeff Bates, said dryly, "He should have had to grow up with the name Bates ..." Kids can be cruel. But kids can grow up. ------------- Dr. Niman calls himself Henry. So please do me (and yourself) a favor, and DROP that "Hank" business. I realize it's been done to you (a-plenty), but regardless -- DON'T! Getting even never works. It just ups the anti. Please let's have ALL the name-calling end here. Raise the bar. Regards, Cheryl -------------------------------- PS The spam heckling has long since ceased to be "cute." PPS The Virginia law is about something entirely different than web posting. It's about storms of unsolicited email. Furthermore, it's probably knee-jerk sloppy and therefore unconstitutional -- and will just polarize people and waste tax dollars, while providing no solution to the problem. Washington State has a well-written law, worthwhile for the most severe cases, which is what it is designed to address.
