Bosco,

The Abilene Project is a partnership sponsored by UCAID (University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development), Qwest, Nortel and Cisco. IBM's PR machine got its name in the press, but they and Lucent were uninvolved in the actual deployment of Abilene (they ARE active in other Internet2 projects).

Qwest, Nortel and Cisco worked very co-operatively on this project. Qwest provided the physical infrastructure, Nortel the ADM Layer 2 gear and Cisco the Layer3 equipment.
