"Amazon's New Moves"

25 Feb/IIAS Journal

"Amazon's purchase of on-line retailer, Drugstore.Com may leave many on Wall Street scratching their heads. However, those who have closely listened to prior pronouncements by Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, will not be surprised by this latest purchase. Bezos has said all along that Amazon was interested in any area which would fit into their increasingly dominant "e-tail" business model."

"What many have failed (so far) to realize is that Amazon is after more than just the book, music, and movie market. No segment of retail is safe from Amazon's reach, so long as it fits into the hyper inventory turn, low/no cost shipping model."

"What we may expect from Amazon in the coming months is uncertain, but investors should not be surprised by moves already hinted at by Bezos, including on-line investment, clothing, automobiles, or any other business that could conceivably be re-configured into a "store frontend/internet back end" business."

"Drugstore.Com is just the latest in a series of smart moves Amazon is making into e-tailing - and there is every reason to expect more and bigger shopping sprees this year. With a multi-billion dollar cash horde and 99% of the retail market left to conquer, Amazon has barely scratched the surface of the gold mine."

"As Amazon "bears" learned in 1998, those who choose to bet against Amazon learn to live with the pain of being wrong. Perhaps some Tylenol from Drugstore.Com would help."
