Earlie,

1. With all due respect and IMHO, you are completely off base wrt the general population's interest in the 'net. I won't debate over opinions, but I think that your impression of the 'net is perhaps limited by your extensive personal interactions with traders. The 'net is much bigger than that.

One note: 1 year or so back, some opined that the 'net had no future as there was no broadband and huge interest, thus causing brownouts. Now, the 'net has broadband but no future. Go figure!

2. You have made a good point. But in general, faster memory will be a requirement sooner or later. Personal experience tells me that enterprise users demand better performance even after 100-fold performance improvements over 3 years. And if 'net computing indeed becomes the standard (as some present technology conferences seem to indicate) desktops will become memory hogs by factors presently unimaginable (e.g. a Gig of main memory may seem insufficient).

3. Maybe for you Earlie. The traffic that IRC (text only) generates indicates otherwise.

4. But it is reality, and ad dollars are real dollars.

5. Earlie, again, I think you need to get in touch with the latest technology. I am amazed that you consider PDAs to be a marketting gimmic.

6. Middle classes in India didn't have to face the S. E. Asian trauma at all Earlie. Also, the Chinese weathered the trauma rather well. Check your sources again.
