AMI is competing against LSI.

See LSI PR at lsilogic.com and lsilogic.com.

The main difference seems to be that Symbios is relying on Wind River for some of their software and AMI is developing everything themselves. One of the chief barriers to adoption of I2O is the high cost of the i960 processor and IBM, Compaq, and H-P have proposed an alternative called FutureIO. AMI doesn't address this problem, but they might be successful if they can ally themselves with Intel's enemies.

Award beat AMI and Phoenix in the Taiwan market. Even in this overpriced IPO market, AMI hasn't been able to go public. The balance of power has shifted to Phoenix, so at least one of the big BIOS customers has sent work to AMI to keep them in the business. Watch AMI PR in the next few months for signs that Phoenix has lost business.

I don't think AMI will do any better competing against LSI and Wind River than they did against Phoenix, but their business plan is better than trying to create a new market and scamming the stock market like SystemSoft.

There's a 5 part series on the future of I2O from a Wind River touter at the links below.

This last report is especially useful for John Dillon and others who'd like to see a "Phoenix Inside" campaign.
