Interestingly, the decline is entirely linked to comparisons between Dell and its lead competitor, Compaq. Dell's controlling grasp over the sale of built-to-order personal computers has been loosening of late.
Through perseverance, Compaq has now leapt to the lead in gross margins, nibbled down Dell's lead in net margins, and narrowed the gap on the flow ratio.

To all: I also heard the ML comment on CNBC this morning. What entered my mind was that I was glad CPQ is more diversified than DELL if that analyst is correct (which they really havent been that accurate on PC sales for some time now). Seems to me the AV spinoff (partial) will be so lucrative for CPQ that it may overcome any market weaknesses. Just my thoughts. JDN
