Asked why he would buy at a time when the price is falling with warnings from a distinguished analyst at Merrill Lynch, the modest aristrocractic hermit replied: "I always take the long view - in six weeks this stock will be 20% higher, at least!" When asked how much the stock might fall in the meantime, he dismissed the question airily: "My family's motto is taken from old Norman French and translates - the sharper the fall the higher the bounce". One reporter suggested that today's move was very brave, to which came the reply, "Noblesse oblige".
