Sorry to be so remedial, but I'm new to this business ... could you explain exactly how the split works? or refer me to a good reference? I'm looking at buying some Dell and possibly ORCL soon, but I'm not certain how to deal with the split. My understanding is that the stock will split at the end of the day March 5, meaning the next day that the market opens shareholders will have 2 for every one share, and the price will be halved. What is the significance of the shareholders of record date February 26? Does that mean shareholders between Feb. 26 and March 5 will receive split? Also, how do the online trading houses deal with a split if you want to buy at open the day after a split takes affect? Will they take your orders the day before? Thank you for your patience. I'm obviously not a day trader, but a long-term investor who is just learning the ropes. Any assistance would be appreciated.sd
