Sam, there are a number of potential candidates IMHO, in commerce and information, the internet could create some dislocations, in biology, cloning and bioengineering are just beginning to have a possible impact, in electronics and a broad range of other activities new strange materials. I can tell you that I do not think that GaAs or injection molded ceramics (the "materials of the future some 15 years ago) will be "drivers".
