One thing I forgot to add. In the spring we strart getting lots of daylight and the sun starts getting intense. So in the spring often it is the sun melting things which is more of a concern then the mild temps. So mild temps are a factor but if oit is mild and overcast not a lot happens. Get mild and sunny and things really melt.
Right now we have mild but overcast so things are slippery but nothing is really melting. A few days ago it was colder but sunny and the snow on the roof was melting.
regards Walt

thanks for taking the time Walt, great explanation.

re 'we just go full throttle and skim across the open water. A great sport if you have the nerve to try it. Getting across the open water is one think stopping when you reach shore is another. ''

ggggggggggg i'll say I would not try it, mind you legend over here is that in the North a wet man is a dead man.

" bozzo ice fishermen put their fishing holes right on and beside the winter road " must have been a sight seing the water spurt out when the trucks came by !

you have said things I have witnessed but never really noticed : like the flooding of ice and the 'ice cube chime music' in spring.

aint that sound great, clink clink clink & warm blue sky

we do have an ice road over here over the Ottawa river, for cars & light trucks, about 1.5 k long, but they close it pretty fast after the temp goes above -10 -5 (?) cant recall, maybe this ice wave thing gets worst when the ice warms up

thanks again
