Roberts' right - and the bear market in bonds was basically vanquished in 1982 when Volcker announced that thrift tax benefit/loan swap thing which rallied bonds sharply. In concurrence, the bull market is widely agreed to have commenced in 1982. Though I wasn't old enough to really witness any of it firsthand, I enjoyed quite a vivid replay of the event in the book Liar's Poker. Where is technology responsible? For the gross overvaluation of the bull market. Tech became rocket fuel for the averages.
