Pretty reasonable. We certainly cannot help everyone. But I favor the active promotion of our "way of life", at least in respect of economics and government. In any case, although a strong culture is capable of absorbing influences without spinning out of control, it is also capable of perpetuating itself and its institutions. I am sorry that the goal of assimilation has come into question, for example, since the older form of "diversity", ethnic pride subordinated to the drive to be Americans, was pretty successful. Similarly, I don't want the premises of our political culture, such as the value of unfettered, reasonable discourse, to come into question at least until people are old enough not to lose all faith in their beliefs while scrutinizing them.
