''By leveraging Sun's high-performance server and software platforms and Linkon's telecommunications architecture, we've created the first telco-quality system to run voice and fax over a company's virtual private data network, including the Internet,'' said Lee W. Hill, Linkon president and CEO. Linkon is exhibiting its LinkNet Voice Over the Internet solution at the CT Expo Show March 2 to 4 in conjunction with Sun Microsystems. Linkon's solution, which utilizes Sun Microsystems Netra servers and the Internet, can be tested at two phone booths available at Sun's exhibition booth (#641). ''Linkon and Sun are taking a leadership role in developing the carrier grade Internet telephony market,'' said Daniella Russo, director of marketing for Sun's Network Systems Group. ''Sun's Nebs-certified Netra servers, coupled with Linkon's LinkNet Voice Over IP software, create an ideal solution for this fast-growing market.'' The IP telephony software and hardware market represents a $1.6 billion market opportunity with a CAGR of over 100% between 1999 and 2002, according to Probe Research, Inc., a telecom market research company. Unique quality control Linkon's software has a unique quality control feature which determines the network quality before a call can be made. If Linkon's software determines that call quality is unacceptable, it plays a voice recording letting the caller know the problem. The caller then has the option of terminating the call. ''Linkon's product will significantly decrease the cost of telecommunications operations without any decrease in performance, quality and reliability,'' said Hill. ''It provides the quality and reliability of a traditional telephone call with a significant reduction in cost.'' Linkon's software and hardware runs over data networks rather than traditional voice networks. ''That means a company incurs no additional per-call costs,'' said Hill. ''This can be a tremendous savings when large companies' domestic and international telecom costs can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars a year,'' Hill said. ''Corporate telecommunication costs can decrease from 30 to 60 percent with Linkon's solution,'' according to Hill. Although Voice-Over-the-Internet products have been available, the quality has failed to measure up to traditional telecommunications carrier standards, according to Hill. ''The quality was similar to a ham radio,'' Hill said. ''Linkon's quality and performance is no different from that of a traditional telephone call. Linkon is able to deliver telco-call quality because the product is specially designed to run over a high-performance network based on Sun technologies,'' explained Hill. Linkon's LinkNet utilizes IP protocol standards that allows the software to leverage new data networks being built worldwide, according to Hill. ''With IP networks, voice, fax and data utilize a common base, resulting in reduced costs and greater efficiency,'' said Hill.
